This is a new fellowship designed the expose the fellow to the entire breadth of upper limb surgery.

At the end of the fellowship the candidate would be expected to take up a substantive consultant post in upper limb surgery in the UK.

Surgical sub-specialty practice within the unit includes primary and revision shoulder arthroplasty, arthroscopic surgery of the shoulder e.g.: instability repair, cuff repair, subacromial decompression and distal clavicular excision, rheumatoid hand disease, peripheral nerve entrapment surgery.

The fellow will also be given opportunities for independent practice dependent on demonstration of clinical competence.

There will be an opportunity to get involved with management work under the supervision of the Deputy General Manager of the Planned Care and Surgery division. This experience will stand the Fellow in good stead for his / her future consultant career.

There will be educational and research and opportunities for the fellow. The unit is trial centre for the UKFROST Frozen Shoulder Study run from the University of York and has links with the Arthritis Research UK Pain Centre.

The fellow will take part in the on-call rota at registrar level.
