James Lind Alliance

The James Lind Alliance (JLA) facilitates priority setting partnerships by bringing patients, carers and clinicians together, to identify and prioritise for research the treatment uncertainties which they agree are the most important.

As part of its commitment to research, BESS, along with the British Orthopaedic Association, the National Institute for Health Research and the Oxford Biomedical Research Unit and Biomedical Research Centre, have partnered with the JLA to fund a priority setting partnership. This partnership set out to establishe the top 10 Research Priorities for Surgery for Common Shoulder Problems. The aim was to ensure that those who fund health research are aware of what matters to clinicians and patients.
