How to become a member

Membership Application Form

There are two categories of membership.

a. HONORARY MEMBERS. This category of membership may be offered by the committee to eminent workers in fields relevant to the aims of the Society.

b. ORDINARY MEMBERS. This category of membership will be open to interested medical practitioners and members of allied disciplines.

Members are expected to remain active by attendance at one scientific meeting organised by the Society every two years. In the event of a member being unable to attend, he or she should communicate this to the Secretary in advance of the Business Meeting (AGM).
Failure to fulfil this commitment may result in loss of membership.

Election     a. Applications for membership should be submitted to the Honorary Secretary in writing and must be supported by two referees, one of whom must be a member of the Society.

b. Applications for membership will be considered after attendance at Scientific Meeting of the Society.

c. Election shall be by the vote of the majority at the Business Meeting.

 IMPORTANT NOTES for new members
Applications for Membership will only be considered at the Annual General Meeting providing that the Applicant’s proposer and /or seconder is present to support the application.

Your election as a member of the Society may not occur until the next meeting of the Society and it could therefore be some time before your standing order mandate reaches the Subscription Secretary and your subscription be taken from your Bank account.

The Journal of Shoulder & Elbow Surgery is six issues per annum starting with the January/February edition which is usually despatched from America at the beginning of February. The payment you make is annually on the 6th April so you start receiving issues before you make payment.

You cannot start receiving the Journal for part of a calendar year so if you are elected a member, say, in May, the first standing order payment will be for £55.00 being the ordinary membership subscription for the Society's year starting 1st April. You will receive the January/February edition in the following year and then of 6 April in that following year your payment will be £130.00.

The Subscription Secretary can advise you on how to receive back issues at a reduced rate.

REMINDER
Members are able to claim tax relief (under the provisions of Section 201 ICTA 1988) on the subscription paid
